The Sarvatobhadra Chakra is one of the most detailed tools in Vedic astrology. Astrologers use it to read how the moving planets touch a person's own chart, and to choose good times to begin things. It is rarely offered to the public because working it through by hand takes hours.

The classical name. Sarvataḥ means "on every side" and bhadra means "auspicious", so it is the chakra that is auspicious in every direction, because it reads the sky from all four directions at once. Chakra here means a diagram or board, not the energy centres of yoga.

Our name, and a shorter way many people say it. Sarvatas is the same word, "from every side", and chakras is plural because we draw the chakra again and again: once for your birth, then for each of the 27 nakshatras the Sun and Moon pass through in your report.
A board of 81 squares
A 9×9 grid. Around its edge sit 28 nakshatras, the usual 27 plus Abhijit, seven facing each direction. Inside are the 12 rashis, the Sanskrit letters, the tithis and the days of the week.
Vedh: lines of influence
A planet on the board looks straight across and diagonally to either side. Whatever lies on those three lines is touched by it. This is called vedh, and it is what the whole chakra is read by.
Gentle and testing touches
Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and the Moon in its bright half tend to ease what they touch. Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu and the Sun tend to test it. The same day can feel very different from one chart to the next.

What is the Sarvatobhadra Chakra?+
One of the most detailed tools in Vedic astrology, also called the Sarvatas Chakra: a 9×9 board of the 28 nakshatras, 12 rashis, Sanskrit letters, tithis and weekdays. A planet on it influences everything on the lines it looks along, called vedh. Your report places your own chart on the board and reads the year through it.
